Dr. Nigel Gumley of Cedarview Animal HospitalDr. Nigel Gumley, DVM, MSc

Diplomate American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine/Feline), Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner

Dr. Nigel Gumley graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1985. He has since expanded his education to include board certification from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (specializing in canine and feline medicine), a master’s degree in epidemiology, and most recently, certification in canine rehabilitation therapy. He is currently pursuing certification in pain management. In 2001, he was named Outstanding Veterinarian in Ontario.

Dr. Gumley is actively involved in the St. John’s Ambulance pet therapy program, and works closely with the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind.  He is also the founder of the Ottawa Pet Loss Support Group.

When not at work, Dr. Gumley shares his home life with his four children (Laura, Matthew, Beckett, and Fenton), two cats (Noddy and Franklin) and his dog, Fledge.


Dr. Erica Gallagher, DVM

Dr. Erica Gallagher was born and raised in Ottawa, where she attended Canterbury High School for Dramatic Arts. Dr. Gallagher then moved to Guelph, Ontario to attend the University of Guelph biological sciences program before entering the Ontario Veterinary College. She graduated top 10 in her class in 2003 and moved back to Ottawa where she now lives with husband Jon, dog Guinness, and cats Tapper and Felix.

Dr. Gallagher has spent her career working in both in emergency/critical care medicine and regular companion animal practice. Her passion lies in general internal medicine, but she is expanding her skills to include rehabilitation and regenerative medicine. Dr. Gallagher is one of a select few veterinarians in Eastern Ontario performing stem cell therapy, helping dogs with chronic pain or mobility issues to live a better quality of life.

Dr. Gallagher’s hobbies include horseback riding, playing music, socializing with friends, and travelling. Her goals for the future include practice ownership, starting a family, and continuing to grow and develop as a veterinarian.


Sarah Baker, Veterinary Technician

Certified Canine Rehabilitation Assistant, Canadian Veterinary Dental Technician

 

Sarah graduated in 2002 from St. Lawrence College as a Registered Veterinary Technician. Her passion for veterinary medicine has encouraged her to pursue further training in veterinary dentistry and in Canine Rehabilitation, and in 2009, after completing many hours of additional study, Sarah received her certification as a Canadian Veterinary Dental Technician and a Canine Rehabilitation Assistant.

Sharing her home with a rambunctious and energetic Jack Russell Terrier named Hudson and her two cats, Kip and Sam, Sarah’s love of the profession is remarkable. As she says, “It’s not just about the animals, it’s also about the lasting bonds that form with great owners who share a common goal in keeping their pets happy and healthy.”


Jennifer Pike, Registered Veterinary Technician

 

In 2005, Jennifer moved to Ontario from Newfoundland to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinary technician. After obtaining her Veterinary Assistant certificate from St. Lawrence College, she was encouraged to continue her education. In 2009, Jennifer again graduated from St. Lawrence College, this time as a Registered Veterinary Technician. During her years in college she worked in animal hospitals and assisted with the Kingston Humane Society providing love and compassion to every animal in need. Jennifer moved from Kingston to the Ottawa region in 2009 with her spouse and daughter. Together, they are owned by their cat, Squibby.

She has had “a life-long passion for animals of all kinds and looks forward to every day she gets to enjoy a moment in their lives.”


Jaimie Fleming, Registered Veterinary Technician

 

Jaimie graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at St. Lawrence College in 2008. She brings a wealth of experience to Cedarview having worked in a fast-paced 24 hour emergency clinic for three years as well as a rural small animal practice. She also has experience with small pocket pets such as birds, rabbits and rodents. She strives to provide the utmost care to each and every patient. She is particularly interested in patient wellness & prevention such as weight management, nutrition, rehabilitation and dental care. Jaimie understands the essential place that pets play in our family and the importance of preserving that.


Tracy Radbourne, Receptionist

 

Tracy grew up with a menagerie of pets, from dogs and cats, to birds, sugar gliders and possums. She also has over 15 years of experience in the pet industry, starting with a co-op placement at a local pet store while in high school, an experience that led to her first job working with animals. Since 2001, Tracy has worked in animal hospitals within the Ottawa region, providing reception and assistant service to clients and their pets. Her own family currently includes Harley, a four-year-old Labrador cross, her cats Sasha and Mr. Binx, and her two birds, Mystery and Quaker. Tracy loves to discover the personality within each pet she meets, and the special place they hold within their own families.


Laura Orr, Office Manager/Accounting

 

Laura started working in the veterinary industry while in high school and spent several years in administrative positions at local animal hospitals. Her current position at Cedarview Animal Hospital allows her to combine her love of animals with her love of numbers.

A recent graduate of Algonquin College’s Business Accounting program, Laura is now pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce and CGA designation to further her knowledge of accounting and management. While not busy with school and work, Laura shares her home with her husband David and their dog, Kane, a lab mix adopted from the Humane Society.


Carrie Smith, BScPT, CAFCI, Cert Sport Physio, Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist(CCRT)

 

Carrie is a physiotherapist for humans who also branched out into the exciting world of animal rehabilitation. She graduated in 1985 from the University of Western Ontario, and is presently the co-owner of two physiotherapy clinics (Kemptville and Winchester Physiotherapy Centres). Carrie splits her time between treating humans, animals and rugby players (she is not quite sure which category the rugby players fall into).

She has a post-graduate education in acupuncture, intra-muscular stimulation (IMS), manual therapy (joint mobilization and manipulation) and exercise prescription. She holds a certificate in Sports Physiotherapy, and served as team physiotherapist for Canadian women’s hockey at the 1998 and 2010 Olympic Games.

Carrie obtained a certificate in Canine Rehabilitation from the Canine Rehab Institute in Florida in 1994 and has been working with animals ever since. Although the majority of her caseload is with canine patients, she has been known to treat the occasional feline and farm animal. Carrie lives on a farm in North Gower with her husband and three dogs (Sophie, Jake and Casey), three cats (Dipstick, Dobbie and Olly) and two horses (Molly and Diego).
